If you expect to receive an F-1 or J-1 visa, you will receive a Form I-20 or Form DS-2019 from Northern Illinois University. The university will issue those documents only after you have been admitted. Typically, they are issued about three months before the semester to which you have been admitted.
To create a form, the international admissions officers need proof that you have sufficient funds to sustain yourself for the first academic year that you attend NIU.
International students include list funds that come from a NIU teaching or research assistantship, scholarship funds from a non-U.S. university or government, and family and personal sources. For the 2008 calendar year, we estimate that a student must have $20,300 to attend. Summer session tuition and fees are estimated at $2,500.
Applicants expecting to receive an F-1 or J-1 visa should complete and
submit a confidential financial
statement (PDF).
